Anthropocene - Chiara Scarpitti https://www.chiarascarpitti.com ?>

Anthropocene 2017-18

Anthropocene 2017

Anthropocene is a collection of 12 pieces of jewelry, each made from different digital landscapes.

Anthropocene is a term invented in the eighties by the biologist Eugene Stoermer, and later adopted by the Nobel Prize winning chemist P. Crutzen in the book "Welcome to the Anthropocene". Anthropocene is a new post-holocene geological time interval - a period characterized by the pervasive impact of human activities on the earth. This word comes from the greek "anthropos", which means man, and "olocene" used for the geological current era, in order to indicate a new period where mankind transforms in an irreversible way the physical, chemical and biological natural lanscape and ground. This jewelry collection leads to a reflection on this critical situation, through the creation of little devices of thought to wear. By the mixing of different techniques - both handcrafted and digital -, different materials - highly technological and precious -, each piece represent a different digital collage made by the author, with a relational research of extinct plants, flowers and endagered landscapes.

Materials | Techniques: silver, rhodium plated, steel, pure silk, plexiglass, goldsmithing, photo etching, digital print, laser cut, hand sewing.
Limited edition pieces: 1/5.
